Polyurethane foam: Sometimes called Foam rubber
Density: As a general rule the higher the density the higher the quality of foam. So a 1 lb. foam most likely will not last as long or give as good of service as say a 1.25 lb foam. Although density does effect the feel of foam that is not how you measure the firmness of a piece of foam. So Density affects how long it last and how supportive it is. Soft mfg. companies usually use between 1.35 lb and 1.80 lb foam in the manufacture of sofa's.
IFD: Indentation Force Deflection (IFD) is a measurement of the firmness of foam. So again firmness is not the same as density. The two are often confussed.
IFD is determined by pushing or compressing foam. The harder it is to compress the high the IFD.
